Litl Crcl has developed bouboling into a system that breaks the concepts and moves down into pieces that you can use
to develop your own way of bouboling. The system has its' own organization and terminology. If you want to learn
more about the system, continue on to the basics page. If you have absorbed the information above, then you actually
have all you need to launch your own discovery effort, but learning the basics is simple and will speed you along the
learning curve.
Our i-Parts (as named by Litl Crcl)
The seven i-Parts are our primary abilities and are also the key functional components of bougaling. The first 2 listed
are less important during the actual time that you are bougaling. The workings of the brain and nervous system when
we are bougaling are unfathomably complex, but these seven i-Parts are abilities, not parts of the brain.
The iMu is defined as separate from the iBe for two reasons:
1 > there are both conscious and unconscious aspects to our understanding of music
2 > some of our understanding of music appears to be innate.
The iKo is defined as separate from the iMo because:
1 > the prodigious ability to synchronize complex movement to music appears to be innate
2> the proclivity to match Charmmz with Coluurz appears to be innate
Our Memory
We have two types of memory; Short Term Memory (STM) and Long Term Memory (LTM). The process of moving a
memory from short term access to long term access is remarkably squishy, but we don't feel all the messy stuff going
on so don't worry about it.
The Collaboration Called The Boug
The Boug is a simple name for what is actually a complex collaboration of primarily the iBe, iMu, iMo and iKo, but with
controlled involvment of the iAm, iDo and iOp. This collaboration is provided with the sensory inputs of hearing, touch,
movement and motion. The collaboration also has easy and wide access to the Long Term Memory. In bougaling the iKo
is performing Elemoz so that the Charmmz will match the Coluurz that the iMu says are coming. The iBe and iMo are
laying out directions and boundaries for the iKo to work to. The iDo is watching that the bougaling is staying within the
safe movement area and making conscious adjustments to breathing. The iOp is providing respiration and blood flow
plus the workings of its other systems. The iAm is watching for signals of temperature and pain and other signals that
verify the bougaling is or is not staying within the physical limits of the body.
For purposes of this part of the explanation, think of the iAm as a 60-something, pudgy coach for an Olympic gymnast,
and the iDo as their assistant. The gymnast is the For the Olympic gymnast to learn their skills, they have to learn
the feel of the movement. This is done under the guidance of the coach and the assistant. When the gymnast has
learned a skill and performed it enough times, the memory of how to do it is stored in their long term memory and the
skill can be executed whenever it is called for. This process occurs with the coach and the assistant out on the mat,
sometimes manually moving the gymnast through the movements of the skill.
In order to bougal, our Boug needs to have a good selection of Elemoz stored in long term memory. Any simple
movement you can make is an Elemo, so you will already have a large number of Elemoz in your LTM. By learning new
Elemoz for all the different parts of your body you provide a more extensive pallet for your iKo to use to bougal. The
process of learning Elemoz is accomplished by the iAm instructing the iDo to do an Elemo (done to music so that its'
Charmm can be matched to a Coluur) a sufficient number of times for it to be moved from STM to LTM. Fortunately,
these four facts apply:
These facts mean that it is relatively easy to get the matching Elemoz, Charmmz, Elemuz and Coluurz stored in your
LTM. See the Basics pages for descriptions of the most elemental Elemoz.
Once you have a repertoire of Elemoz, it is time for you to bougal. Just like the gymnast's coach, your iAm and iDo
have to get you to your bougaling place and get the music started and then get out of the way. Under the direction of
the iBe, your iKo can perform a complex string of Elemoz, choreographed to fit the music, exactly in time with the
music and with unbelievable speed and skill. As unbelievable as this may sound, you do not have to train your iKo
to bougal. A very high level ability for bougaling is built into us. Upon hearing the opening of a familiar music track
AND if you intentionally allow it, the collaboration of the iBe, iMu, iMo and iKo will:
For an average music track the iKo will execute approximately 1,200 to 2,400 Elemoz. Each Elemo requires the
activation of several muscles and for each muscle a large number of extrafusal muscle fibers. The iKo will activate
these MANY THOUSANDS of muscle fibers, synchronized to the music so as to match the timing of the Charmm of
each Elemo to the timing of the Coluur of each Elemu (while at the same time keeping you upright). To make the ability
of the iKo even more unbelievable, your hands, feet, body and head may all be synchronizing Elemoz to instruments
playing different rhythm or beat lines. Accomplishing all this in the time the music track is playing would be impossible
for the iAm and iDo. For the collaboration of the iBe, iMu and iKo it is easy. In short, having provided the space to
move safely and started the music, all you have to do is:
The Only Catch
Unfortunately, the iAm has veto power over the iBe letting the iKo bougal. Without the deliberate intent to allow your
iKo to bougal, the iAm may at any moment step back in. However, now that you know what you are wanting to do,
sending the iAm to the sideline is really not that difficult. It may be that your iAm does not WANT to go to the
sidelines, which is kind of crazy because it is YOU that is wanting to bougal. The argument might sound like this:
Be aware that if the iAm comes out and trys to "help" while the iKo is working, the iKo's timing will fall apart. The iAm
can think about the lyrics and the philosophy of the track, hum or sing along with the music or call out general opinions
from the sidelines, but getting out on the floor is a no-no.
Say What?
This next disclosure is going to sound totally impossible. Paying conscious attention to the music and conscious attention
to the feelings of the Elemoz are functions of the iAm and iDo. Here is a question: if the iAm and iDo are sent to the
sidelines how will the iMu hear the music or the iKo feel the sensory signals. The answer is that the iMu is still hearing
the music and the iBe feeling the movement, just not on a conscious level. This makes it This may freak out some
individuals when they realize it has happened, but don't worry about it. It's not some sort of voo-doo. It is actually
the way our brain handles auditory signals every day. The iAm much of the time ceases to listen to all the background
sounds around us, leaving the iBe to listen and alert the iAm when a noteworthy sound occurs. Because the iAm does
not have to maintain conscious attention to what the iKo is doing, the iAm can kind of go off and think its own conscious
thoughts. This is what makes bougaling and bouboling useful for the mindfulness exercises of beboling.
Try it, you'll like it!
If you are skeptical of all this, if you can hear music and you have most of your mobility, you can check it all out
yourself. You don't need the bols to try bougaling. You just need some music, some space, yourself and the
deliberate intent to let your iKo bougal. When the iKo clicks on, there is not a SHAZAMM! POW! to alert you that you
are bougaling. When you say to yourself "there is no way I could do what I just did" then you will know.
iAm > the ability to think consciously (I think, therefore I am) > the iAm prefers logic, language and numbers
iDo > the ability to move with conscious intent
iOp > the ability of your nervous system to operate your internal organs and systems (mostly unconsciously)
iBe > the ability to think in alternate ways > the iBe uses fuzzy logic, artistic weightings, intuition, etc.
iMo > the ability to learn motor skills > such as: walking, driving, writing, etc.
iMu > the ability to understand music
iKo > the ability to coordinate movements to the feeling and timing of music
iko > Start the music, I am going to bougal now.
iAm > No! You're not.
iKo > Why not?
iAm > Because it is silly, stupid and non-productive.
iKo > No, it is a pleasurable activity AND it is good exercise.
iAm > I'll grant you that it's good exercise but what is pleasurable about it?
iKo > iAm! You ARE me and we can both feel that matching the Elemoz to the Elemuz is a warm fuzzy thing.
iAm > Yeah, but WHY!
iKo > Hey! You're the one that is supposed to know facts and figures! You tell ME why.
iAm > (looking pitiful) I don't know.
iKo > Then get over to the sideline and figure it out while I bougal.
iAm > (shuffling off with the iDo following) iDo, I think we've been bamboozled.
iKo > cue the music!
1 > the Charmm of an Elemo is almost always generated by a very simple movement
2 > our LTM has a wonderous ability for remembering the feeling of an Elemo's Charmm
3 > our LTM has a wonderous ability for remembering the feeling of an Elemu's Coluur
4 > our LTM has a wonderous ability for remembering which Charmmz match which Coluurz
1 > make a list of which Elemuz are coming and how they will be timed to recreate the artistic intent of the muscians
2 > make a list of the Elemoz that have the Charmm to match the Coluur of each Elemu
3 > plan the muscle activations and the timing of the somatic signals that will be required for execution of the Elemoz
4 > fire off the efferent signals so that the timing of the Charmmz will match the timing of the Coluurz
let your iKo bougal
